Empire Stadium

Constructed in 2009 on the historic grounds of Empire Fields, Empire Stadium was designed as the temporary stadium for the BC Lions during roof construction at BC Place. The stadium now acts as the temporary home field for both the BC Lions and the Whitecaps FC. The outdoor venue has a seating capacity of approximately 27,500, and boasts spectacular panoramic views of the Vancouver mountain, city and sky line.

Reinstatement of Empire Stadium back to Empire Field: The City of Vancouver has retained a professional consulting team and are working with Technical and Community Advisory groups to prepare design options and finalize the concept plan for Empire Field. The project is being guided by the recently adopted Hastings Park/PNE Master Plan and the project scope includes the retention of the synthetic turf field and reuse of portions of the lighting system installed by PAVCO for the temporary stadium. The project also includes a jogging/walking path surrounding the field, new park space adjacent to Empire Field and new pedestrian and bicycle trails connecting to New Brighton Park. Initial public consultation for the reinstatement of Empire Fields will begin in October 2011 with design work finalized in spring 2011 and construction documents are to be tender-ready by the summer of 2012 with construction to follow.
